Tips for sustainable visit

Suomenlinna has been a Unesco World Heritage site since 1991. The sea fortress was added to the list for being a unique example of European military architecture of the time. It is important that you visit Suomenlinna sustainably and environmentally friendly, so the next generations get to enjoy the sea fortress too. Here we have listed a few tips for sustainable visit.

  • Walk only on the allowed areas and marked routes. From the Suomenlinna online guide you can see the Blue Route, by following it you can see the main attractions. You can also find guidesigns for the route on the terrain in Suomenlinna. This is important because some of the areas in the fortress are prohibited or prone to wear and tear.

  • Take into consideration the residents of Suomenlinna. There are approximately 800 residents in the fortress, and many of the buildings are in residential use. In addition, some of the yards are private. So, remember to respect the resident and do not walk in private yards or make loud noises during the quiet hours (from  22 to 07).   • Do not make fire or grill in Suomenlinna. All kinds of fire and grilling is prohibited at all times. Not even disposable grills are allowed.
